Mingus Big Band at the Portland Jazz Festival
I heard the Mingus Big Band at the Portland (Oregon) Jazz Festival last weekend. Different members play each concert depending on who's available, etc. The personal on this outing was:
- Alex Sipiagin, trumpet
- Brandon Lee, trumpet
- Joe Fiedler, trombone
- Andy Hunter, trombone
- Earl McIntyre, trombone
- Mark Gross, tenor sax
- Scott Robinson, tenor sax
- Seamus Blake, sax
- Kurt Hamill (?), alto sax, "leader"
- ?, saxophone
- David Kikoski, piano
- Hans Glawischnig, bass
- Justin Faulkner, drums (18 years old)
Their set list was:
- Haitian Fight Song
- Epitaph---Children's Hour of Dreams
- GG Train
- Sweet Sucker Dance
- Fables of Faubus
- e's flat and ah's flat too (Hora Decubitus)
- Song with Orange
Afterwards I heard the Farnell Netwon, Marcus Reynolds Quintet in the lobby (of the Portland Center for the Performing Arts).
